Located in the village of Doussard near the southern tip of Lake Annecy, Hotel de l’Arcalod has always been a family-run business. Today, there’s a new generation at the reins and they mean to leave their mark.
Agence Amevet’s involvement takes place in the context of this desire for change. In the project’s first phase (others are planned for later), the objective was to renovate the communal areas: entrance, reception, and bar.
The existing spaces have been totally reorganized and refitted in order to redefine the focal points and enable freer movement between them.
To facilitate the customer welcome, the reception desk is adjoined to the bar area. A lounge area is laid out inside the glazed verandah, providing a lovely, cosy ambience with views onto the gardens and swimming pool. Another friendly zone for chilling out is the library area, with Wi-Fi access, a highly contrasted colour scheme, soft lighting, and acoustically optimized materials.
The project sets out to create an ambience built around the lake and mountain theme, close to the owners’ hearts.
For the lake part, our choice was shades of blue and grey, with transparency from the verandah, and with lightness, achieved notably by a careful choice of hanging lamps.
For the mountain part, our interior architects used timber in a variety of finishes. Rough finishes, like in one of the project’s strong statements, the reception desk and bar, are achieved with log sections assembled and punctuated by metal sections.
Much more contemporary finishes, featuring streamlined divider screens and Laudescher cladding, offer an alternating pattern of timber slats and hollows, with an acoustic finish ideal for a library area.
This hotel project was wholly designed by our interior architects in a timeless style, subtly spiced with a scattering of more fashionable notes.
